Along with the rest of world, the City of NoCodeVille has struggled to attract and retain top talent as of late. Vacancies are at all-time highs and have remained opened longer than necessary. This is due, in large part, to our reliance on a decades old system of PDF hiring requests that often get lost during signature routing.
Being the forward-thinkers that we are, we’re turning to no-code in order to build a web-based application to solve this problem. In our application, City HR Managers will be able to generate hiring requests electronically that capture all of the same information they currently enter into the manual PDF’s. Once complete, they’ll be able to send the request off into the custom workflows we’ve created in order to capture the necessary reviews and approvals.

I never majored in Business and Finance with the intention to become a public servant. In fact, I thought my first real job as an entry level Finance analyst in Fishers, IN would be a temporary, hold-me-over type of position until I could find something better.
It was a shock to me when I fell in love with the work, and the idea that our efforts didn’t just result in the production of better widgets – it had real impacts on the lives of real people. We were literally shaping the world around us (building better parks and spaces for local families to enjoy).
The only constant downside to the work was the technology at our disposal (or lack thereof). My coworkers at my first job used adding machines – consistently throughout the day – to accomplish tasks. Though it felt like we always got the short end of the stick when it came to attention from software vendors, we always made it work.
Fast-forward to 2019 when I was introduced to the incredible power of no-code – specifically Bubble.io. I remember it being a bit daunting at first, but it was as if a light bulb went off almost immediately. The realization that I could build (so far) any type of software application that I could think up would change the trajectory of my public sector career indefinitely.
